Das Programm

Das Programm beugt Stürzen vor und stärkt gleichzeitig die Muskulatur. Dies wird durch sich ergänzende neuromuskuläre, sensomotorische und physiologische Anpassungen erreicht. Grundlage sind drei zentrale Bestandteile: progressives Krafttraining der unteren Extremitäten, schrittweise gesteigerte Gleichgewichtsübungen und ein Gehtraining. Die Übungen werden mindestens dreimal pro Woche durchgeführt und über einen Zeitraum von 8 bis 26 Wochen in ihrer Intensität gesteigert. [1–3]

Das Programm verfolgt bewusst einen multifaktoriellen Ansatz, da auch Stürze bei älteren Menschen meist durch mehrere Faktoren verursacht werden. Die sturzpräventive Wirkung beruht daher nicht auf einem einzelnen Mechanismus, sondern auf mehreren parallel wirkenden Veränderungen.

Mechanismen der Sturzprävention

Stürze entstehen unter anderem dann, wenn das System der Haltungskontrolle einen Verlust des Gleichgewichts nicht rechtzeitig ausgleichen kann. Manabi setzt an verschiedenen Komponenten dieses Systems an:
