Le programme

Le programme prévient les chutes tout en renforçant la musculature. Cela est obtenu par des adaptations neuromusculaires, sensorimotrices et physiologiques complémentaires. Il repose sur trois composantes centrales : un entraînement progressif en force des membres inférieurs, des exercices d’équilibre d’intensité croissante et un entraînement à la marche. Les exercices sont réalisés au moins trois fois par semaine et leur intensité est augmentée sur une période de 8 à 26 semaines. [1–3]

Le programme suit délibérément une approche multifactorielle, car les chutes des personnes âgées sont généralement dues à plusieurs facteurs. Son effet préventif ne repose donc pas sur un mécanisme unique, mais sur plusieurs changements agissant en parallèle.

Mécanismes de la prévention des chutes

Les chutes surviennent notamment lorsque le système de contrôle postural ne parvient pas à compenser à temps une perte d’équilibre. Manabi agit sur différentes composantes de ce système :
